Unidentified gunman shoots dead Ikhwani-turned-Policeman in Kulgam

Srinagar, July 22: A policeman was on Wednesday shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, police has said.

Police said that gunman fired upon at the cop, a former Ikhwani (government gunman) identified as Abdul Rashid Dar (58) son of Ghulam Hassan at Furrah area in Mir Bazar Kulgam, leaving him critically injured.

Soon after the incident, Dar was shifted to hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead on arrival.

Medical superintendent GMC Anantnag Dr Majid Mahrib said that he was brought dead.

A police spokesman in a statement said that at around 2120 hours, a report about some 3 to 4 fire shots was received, in Kulgam’s Furrah area of PP Mirbazar jurisdiction.

“Accordingly, police parties rushed to the spot and it was learnt that a person named Ab Rashid Dar, son of Ghulam Hasan Dar, a resident of Furrah has been shot by unknown persons.”

Police said that he was taken to Janglat Mandi Hospital, however, he breathed his last soon.

Meanwhile, the entire area has been cordoned off and searches have been launched to trace the attackers, the spokesman added.
