Banihal, Mar 22: A hotel owner was arrested in Banihal area of Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir for violating the prohibitory order issued by the magistrate in view of Covid-19 outbreak, police said on Sunday.
Giving details, SHO Banihal, Syed Abid Bukhari told Greater Kashmir that they received information from a reliable source that a British citizen had stayed at Chanir hotel near Ramban railway station Banihal during the intervening night of 19 and 20 March.
“The owner of the hotel, namely Ajaz Ahmad, son of Ghulam Hassan Naik, a resident of Kaskoot Tehsil Banihal violated the district magistrate’s order in which he had directed the closure of all hotels in the district in view of Covid-19 outbreak,” said Bukhari.
He said a case vide FIR number 48/2020, under section 188 IPC stands registered at Police Station Banihal. “Investigation has been taken up and the accused has been arrested,” he added.
In a drastic precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus, the Ramban district magistrate on Tuesday invoked the provisions of the National Disaster Management Act, ordering the suspension of public transport in the hilly district and closure of hotels and restaurants along the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
